PACK 125 BEAR DENS

Pack 125 has one Bear Den lead by Susan Morrison and Sean Langen

BEARS

If a Cub Scout has completed the second grade (or is 9 years old) and has earned the Bobcat Badge, he may start earning the Bear rank. He receives a Bear Scout handbook and Bear neckerchief, but continues to use the Wolf neckerchief slide when beginning the Bear portion of the boy scout trail. He will continue to use the blue Cub Scout Uniform. This part of the boy scout trail is intended to take one school year, preparing the scout to begin earning his Webelos rank after he completes third grade. Cub Scouts work toward the Bear Badge, then they, too, work toward earning a Gold Arrow Point and Silver Arrow Points. The requirements for these badges are found in the Bear Cub Scout Book.

THE BEAR TRAIL

To earn the Bear Badge, a Cub Scout must complete 12 achievements out of a possible 24
that are offered in the book. The achievements are grouped in 4 major areas, GOD, COUNTRY,
FAMILY, and SELF. Within each group, a required number of achievements must be completed,
as indicated below. Also, any achievements that they do NOT use to earn the Bear Badge may
be used to earn Arrow Points

Most achievements are primarily done at home and signed off by an adult family member after
the boy has completed each one. The book is then shown to the Den Leader who records the
progress and also signs the boy's book.

The Bear badge must be earned first before any arrow points are awarded. A gold arrow point is awarded for the first 10 achievement tasks over the Bear requirements. A silver arrow point is awarded for each additional 10 tasks completed. Since all arrow points are awarded after the Bear badge is awarded, your scouts would not receive any awards until February at the earliest. To provide frequent recognition, Bear scouts can earn Progress Beads. For completing the requirements of 3 of the Achievements listed below, one RED bead is awarded and placed on the Progress Towards Ranks totem. This provides the scout with a total of 4 beads culminating in the award of his Bear badge. These beads are awarded at the den level rather than at Pack meetings

THE BEAR UNIFORM

The uniform is an important part of the Scouting program as it has been since scouting was first started. The uniform identifies the boys and adults with Cub Scouts and gives them a sense of belonging to the den, the pack, and the Boy Scouts of America. Scouts should wear their uniforms to all den meetings, pack meetings, and special pack activities.

The uniform for the Bear Cub Scout is the official blue Cub Scout shirt, Bear neckerchief, and slide. The official Bear cap and blue web belt with a Cub Scout buckle are optional.
Tip: Purchase a short-sleeved rather than long-sleeved shirt for your Bear scout. The short-sleeved shirts are less expensive, cooler in active play, and will not be outgrown as fast as long-sleeved. One short-sleeved shirt should last for the 2.5 to 3 years he'll need it.

The Uniform Inspection Sheet has insignia placement guides.

The Bear den leader wears the official Cub Scout leader uniform, Bear neckerchief, and slide.

Uniform details and other scouting gear can be found at the Atlanta Area Council Scout Shop or online from the BSA National Supply Division.
